Many will agree that some things are best left alone when it comes to symbols. Like the McLaren F1. Both in the real world and on the automotive levels of the imaginary realm.
Originally conceived by the legendary designer Gordon Murray and equipped with the BMW S70 / 2 V12 engine, the three-seater F1 sports car from McLaren is rightly an icon of the automotive world. Hence, a modern reinterpretation will still upset someone, no matter how GMA T.50-perfect it may be.
Just take one look at the rather massive setback to Lamborghini’s new Countach LPI 800-4 and you will easily understand why McLaren chose the Speedtail path for its spiritual F1 successor. Virtual artists, on the other hand, usually have no problem contradicting the wishes of fans and trying to realize their visions of new iterations.
Marouane Bembli, the pixel master better known on social media as Thesketchmonkey, has decided to envision a “modern” McLaren F1 … with little to no success. Since this is part of his exclusive Instagram endeavors (he also has no fewer than three YouTube channels), this is a very quick transformation.
As such, his traditionally extensive look behind the scenes of the process behind the digital creations is withheld from us. Instead, it’s just a short jump from the original material to its revised vision. On this particular occasion, the result arouses a lot of mixed feelings among fans. Maybe it’s the obvious Porsche Taycan front-end inspiration?
Anyway, the comments range from assuming that Gordon Murray would “die” if he saw the Photoshop transform, to “there are things that don’t need to be changed” or assuming that the classic F1 and the electric vehicle from Porsche had a little “baby”. ”
Hence, it’s probably best to remember that this is just wishful thinking and that no McLaren F1 has actually been harmed.
