It was very mixed French Grand Prix for the Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda Team, with Pierre Gasly In his home race, he finished seventh, adding more points to the team as opposed to Yuki Tsunoda who took thirteenth place.

Gasly had a very strong home race and the Frenchman did very well from the start, keeping up with both of them McLaren F1 team and the Scuderia Ferrari. Unfortunately, Gasly lost two places during his pit stop, one to each team. However, the Frenchman recovered well and ended up behind both McLarens but ahead of the Ferraris, which resulted in a seventh place.

Tsunoda had a difficult race. After a crash in qualifying, the rookie had to start from the pit lane. Tsunoda made up some ground very quickly, but made up three places on the first lap. However, his progress was stopped after getting stuck behind both of them Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN Cars. The team tried to undercut both, but that meant that by the end of the race, Tsunoda’s tires were ready. All in all, a thirteenth place is not the end of the world for the youngster.

AlphaTauri Head of Vehicle Performance Guillaume Dezoteux believes Gasly did a fantastic job and that there is a lot to be learned and analyzed in order to support Tsunoda.

“It was a successful but difficult race today. We managed to bring home seventh place with Pierre, which is a nice reward for the weekend. After the morning rain, the track had a major reset and the tires were graining pretty bad, not just on our cars, but on most of the field. In the race we had to do a lot of tire management to stick with the one-stop strategy and Pierre did a fantastic job attacking and defending all along.

“It was of course quite difficult for Yuki to start from the pit lane, but he showed good pace in the first few laps. However, after the stop in the open air, he couldn’t make up as much ground as we had hoped. We will analyze everything and see what are the most important insights for him in the future.

“Today we increased our gap to Aston Martin by 3 points, which is very positive. The fight in midfield is very close, but we face the challenge and our competitors can count on us to make their lives difficult until the last race in Abu Dhabi. “
