“Pole Position: The Juan Gonzalez Formula 1 Collection,” as the exhibition title suggests, belongs to Juan Gonzalez, chairman of Mission Foods, based in Texas. Mission Foods, the company that makes tortillas and tortilla-related products, sponsors the McLaren F1 team and the Arrow McLaren SP INDY team.

The 10 F1 racing cars presented in this exhibition tell the stories of top-class F1 drivers and manufacturers and reflect four decades of the sport. The most famous Formula 1 drivers, including Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, are among those whose racing cars are featured.

Vehicles on display at the Charles Nearburg Family Gallery include the 1987 Lotus 99T, the 2008 McLaren F1 MP4-24, the 2013 Ferrari F138, the 2017 Scuderia Toro Rosso STR12 and the 2018 McLaren MCL33.

In addition to a close look at these legendary F1 racing cars, visitors also have the opportunity to find out about the mechanics, design, materials and aerodynamics. The Pole Position F1 exhibition runs until June 5, 2022 at the Petersen Museum. As with everything at Petersen, photos of the exhibition probably don’t do it justice – but if you can’t make it to Los Angeles anytime soon, we won doesn’t stop you from looking down:
