Norris criticizes Bottas for "trying to be a hero" after the crash of the Hungarian GP in Formula 1 in lap 1 | F1

Bottas met Norris’ McLaren on the run from turn 1 on the Hungaroring on lap 1 and sent Norris into the Red Bull duo Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen.

Bottas, Perez and Norris all had to finish the race while Verstappen carried on with significant damage.

Norris’ failure on the first lap meant his 15-race points streak was over.

“Of course I’m angry because I was third,” said Norris. “I got off to a very good start and the game is over in the first lap. There are four or five people here [in the media pen] because some people try way too hard. They think they can be a hero and they overtake themselves and it ruins everyone’s race. It wasn’t a long race for me.

“Everyone knows it’s slippery, it’s wet. Everyone makes mistakes at some point, and sometimes it’s the first round, but it’s also the first round. It’s a long race. Bottas has a much faster car and would have overtaken me at some point in the race. I don’t know what goes through their heads sometimes when they try to do things like that. “

Norris had a great start from sixth on the grid and moved up to third – what calls him one of the best starts he has made in his F1 career.

“When I was hit it was a contrast of emotions,” added Norris. “It’s probably one of the best starts I’ve ever made, third place, such a small touch in a braking zone can have a big impact. Just because you’re braking to the limit, the grip is so low, so a small increase in speed and everything is gone.

“Bottas slowed himself down and hit me, and then I was a passenger to the max. It sucks, but there is nothing I can do. My job has been very good, a very good start, and I’ve done everything I had to do, but through no fault of my own I’m here to speak to you. “

He confirmed that Bottas had apologized for the incident.

“There’s not much to say about that, is there? It wasn’t my fault, ”explained Norris. “He just came to me and apologized. Sorry, but it doesn’t change the result. It’s the first lap of the race and nobody has to do anything stupid, but they did that today. “
