In a post-race interview, Norris gave his verdict on the race. As he was conveying about his excellent battle with Esteban Ocon in the last lap, the sound of fireworks burst out in the paddock.

The young Briton was not pleased with it. It frustrated him as he said, “Aw, not more fireworks please, boring.”

However, in contrast, the McLaren driver enjoyed the fireworks back in 2021. He finished 4th in the Bahrain Grand Prix last year and jokingly asked his engineer whether the fireworks were for him at the end of the race. His engineer joined him, saying, “They can be!” as McLaren and Norris endured a solid campaign.

McLaren looking to improve

The P7 finish by Lando Norris meant McLaren is off and running for the season. They experienced a poor start to the season as both the cars struggled with pace in Bahrain. Even though the performance improved in Saudi Arabia, Norris is still thriving for improvement. He stated, “I think we can be satisfied with P7 and some decent points. That was the aim for today. We would have loved to have got P6, and maybe it was possible, but we’re still happy with P7. “

At the same time, Daniel Ricciardo stumbled in Jeddah and retired the car in the middle of the race. He had an encouraging start, but the suspected drivetrain issues in the car mean he is yet to score points in 2022. However, McLaren will be happy with the progress and will look to capitalize in the upcoming races.

Norris also gave his thoughts on the Australian’s retirement from the race and felt that both the cars had the potential to finish among the points. He also added, “It’s good to see that there was a bit more pace in the car today, and we can make progress. But we’re still not where we want to be, so we’ll keep pushing.”

McLaren’s start to the season is not what they would have expected. Can they bounce back after a torrid start? We will have to wait and watch.
