Salon Prive Concours: UK – September 3, 2021 – The opening day of Salon Privé Week 2021 – Wednesday 1st organizer of Salon Privé.
Almost 150 members of the press were in attendance when the legendary Italian design house Touring Superleggera made the Arese RH95 its world debut and the mid-engined supercar – shining in green with yellow accents – greeted visitors as they entered the South Lawn in front of the Blenheim Palace. Named after 95 years of touring design heritage, the Arese RH95 follows Disco Volante and AERO 3, which made its world premiere at last year’s event.
The Range Rover Sport SVR Ultimate Edition also celebrated its world premiere. Based on the Sport SVR – Land Rover’s fastest and most powerful SUV – the Ultimate Edition offers exclusive color combinations and details, and the car presented at Salon Privé was painted in a beautiful Mayan blue.
Not far away on the South Lawn, there was a European debut for the latest model in the McLaren long-tail range – the 765LT Spider – as well as the Morgan Plus Four CX-T, developed by Rally Raid UK as a rugged cross-country vehicle.
Alpine made its UK debut for its A110 Legend GT in 2021. Limited to 300 copies worldwide, the French sports car has 292 hp in a package that weighs less than 1100 kg and has a number of features that are unique to the Legend GT 2021, such as the matt Mercury silver paintwork .
“Salon Privé is a fantastic event,” said Seb Brechon, Alpine Territory Manager for the UK. “It’s great for us – the venue, the setting, the fact that it has a garden party feel to it. We love to be here – it’s the fourth year in a row that we’re at Salon Privé and it’s one of the events we’re really looking forward to. “
Italian luxury car maker Automobilia Pininfarina was another to debut a new model in the UK. Worldwide production of the stunning Battista Anniversario will be limited to just five cars, all of which are now sold, and at 1,873 horsepower, the all-electric hypercar is the most powerful street-legal car ever brought out of Italy. It was exhibited alongside six timeless classics that were part of a Concours d’Elégance class on the occasion of the 90.
Another all-electric hypercar that made its first public appearance in the UK was the Automobili Estrema Fulminea – the world’s first car to use an innovative hybrid battery pack that combines solid-state electrolyte Li-ion cells and ultracapacitors. The fully electric Hispano-Suiza Carmen also made its debut in Great Britain. Designed, developed and built in Barcelona, the Carmen marks the return to automobile production for one of the oldest and most respected names in automobile history.
The variety of machines exhibited at Salon Privé was underlined by the addition of the Hispano-Suiza in front of the Spencer Pavilion, the BAC Mono R – a minimalist sports car that uses graphene in its body panels to reduce its total weight to just 555kg.
The sacred lawn of Blenheim Palace cricket ground traded leather and wicker for some of the most coveted machines ever built with the introduction of a brand new feature for 2021. The Red Collection was launched on Wednesday during a dramatic ceremony and at the center of the 12-car Exhibition was a sensational Ferrari 250 GTO. The 4399 GT chassis – which was driven by the famous Maranello Concessionaires team at the time – was surrounded by vehicles from more than 80 years of automotive history, including the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Spider Zagato that won at last year’s Salon Privé Concours d ‘Best of show won. Elegance.
There was also a Maserati 250S, which was driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss during this period, a Ferrari F40, which only covered 2,371 km, a Mercedes-Benz 300SL “Gullwing” and two Paganis in the form of a Huayra Roadster and a Zonda F Clubsport. One of the most important Ferraris of all time – the 166 MM, which won the Mille Miglia and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1949 – was also part of the line-up, as was a Ferrari 275 GTB Competizione Clienti, which was one of only 10 built. The show stop group was completed by an ex-Scuderia Filipinetti Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, a McLaren F1 and an Amilcar C6.
Chassis 4399 GT wasn’t the only GTO at the Salon Privé. The 3767 GT, which was reunited with first owner David Piper on Wednesday afternoon, took pride of place in front of Blenheim Palace. The British privateer bought the GTO new in 1962 and finished fourth overall in this year’s Tour de France before heading to South Africa and winning the Kyalami Nine Hours. The reunion at Salon Privé became even more special as a family occasion – Piper was accompanied by his wife Liz, as well as his daughter and grandchildren, who proudly watched as he was interviewed with the GTO on the main stage in front of the Palace.
Along with the unveiling of the Red Collection, a brand new Salon Privé event was announced – “The Chelsea Edition”, which will take place April 21-23, 2022 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the famous Chelsea Pensioners and world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show. With Salon Privé keeping its traditional September date at Blenheim Palace, the spring meeting in London will be the perfect end to the car season.
Event Director Andrew Bagley said: “Wednesday was a sensational opening day of this year’s Salon Privé Week and it was great to see so many manufacturers showcasing new models for the first time. It was also an honor to welcome David Piper and his family to Blenheim Palace and hear his memories of his time at GTO. We are particularly excited to announce a second Salon Privé event for 2022 and look forward to returning to London next spring for our new Chelsea Edition. ‘
