Sochi Autodrome, Friday September 24th
Hear from McLaren Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, as well as Andrea Stella, Executive Director Racing, after practice for the Russian Grand Prix.
LANDO NORRIS, # 4
| FP1 | 1m35,959s (+ 1,532s) | 24 rounds | 8th. |
| FP2 | 1m34.154s (+ 0.561s) | 17 rounds | 4th |
“Today was a bit up and down – we struggled a lot on P1, but we made some changes to the car for the second session that improved things. This progress gave me a little more confidence in the car this afternoon and made us feel more positive about tomorrow.
“Some of our Monza strengths are not that obvious on this track and there are more corners here where we are not as strong. But it can still feel relatively good, it just doesn’t always translate into the actual lap time. We’re not as competitive as we were at Monza, but we still have a good feeling and we can still be competitive compared to the teams we’re actually up against. There are many things to consider when predicting the weather forecast for tomorrow, so there is a lot to think about overnight to prepare for tomorrow. “
DANIEL RICCIARDO, # 3
| FP1 | 1m36.877s (+ 2.450s) | 23 rounds | 14th |
| FP2 | 1m35.630s (+ 2.037s) | 12 rounds | 17th |
“We struggled to get comfortable this morning and it wasn’t that fast. We made some changes by swapping the PU for FP2 but then we had a delay in getting out and then we had yellow, red flags and then people around us with lots of fuel. It was really a losing session so we have some homework tonight. Fortunately, Lando looked more comfortable and faster in FP2, so we’ll try to learn from that. Not the most inspiring day for us, but we can still work a lot to improve before qualifying. “

ANDREA STELLA, Managing Director, Racing
“The weather conditions in Sochi are volatile this week. We had rain yesterday and rain is expected tomorrow, but today the sessions were dry and we were able to work through our dry run schedule. We focused on understanding the tires and the setup and preparing the car as usual for both the single lap performance and the race. We had a bit of a glitch on Daniel’s side of the garage when we discovered a problem at the end of FP1. We swapped the PU over the break between P1 and P2, lost some running time and thus drove our new soft run in P2 in difficult traffic conditions. This is reflected in the rating – but we know that there is a lot more to come. ”
