We have seen a number of beautiful creations from the McLaren Special Operations division over the past few years. There was this 720S with a hand-painted Gulf livery that took 20 days to complete, a Le Mans edition with review hints, and some models designed exclusively for the racetrack. But MSO’s latest project honors seasoned McLaren racing driver Daniel Ricciardo.
This is the McLaren 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition, named after the honey badger and with the brand’s iconic blue and orange paint job. Most of the bodywork sports the Papaya Spark Orange found on McLaren F1 cars, with Burton Blue accents on the hood, side mirrors and rear. There’s even a sticker with the Australian flag embedded in the door and Ricciardo’s number “3” underneath.

McLaren says it will only build three of these exclusive supercars, each of which is painted in the same orange and blue livery and with a unique black and orange interior. In terms of performance, we expect this 720S to use the same stock 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that’s good for 710 horsepower (529 kilowatts) and 568 pound-feet (770 newton meters). All of that momentum allows the 720S to reach 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph (341 kmh).
All three cars are destined for Ricciardo’s native Australia, as mentioned, with the trio ending up at McLaren Sydney and McLaren Melbourne sometime later this year. Not a word on the price, but don’t expect such a limited edition to be cheap; the McLaren 720S already costs $ 300,000 out of the box.
“After McLaren’s outstanding performance with a landmark one-two for the team at the Italian Grand Prix, it is the perfect time to unveil this limited edition series in honor of the Australian driver,” McLaren’s commercial director George Biggs told Australian website CarExpert.
