McLaren has registered three new supercar names as trademarks: we know that

McLaren has had some difficult years. The financial impact of the pandemic forced the company to sell its headquarters in Woking, England, for nearly $ 240 million earlier this year. But there is hope on the horizon. According to CarBuzz, McLaren has filed three trademark applications with the UK Intellectual Property Office since mid-December.

McLaren appears to be on a mission to quickly expand its range, which will likely include entirely new models rather than just a special edition of an existing model. The names defined by CarBuzz are Solus, Aeron and Aonic. None of these names sound familiar or seem to refer to an earlier McLaren model, so they are most likely entirely new models.

The paperwork was in the Class 12 name for motor land vehicles, automobiles, parts and accessories. We can only speculate where these new models will fit in, especially since McLarens are usually named with a series of numbers that indicate their overall performance. Although the Artura hybrid shows a clear departure from this naming system, these cars could fit anywhere in the current range.

As the sports line of cars is also being discontinued, it is likely that these new models will follow the Artura and form the future of McLaren’s hybrid or even all-electric vehicle line. Since the Artura is cheaper than the 720S but also has lower power, there is certainly room above it to add more potent hybrids or EVs.

Finally, we could look at the names themselves and what they mean. Solus means “alone,” which could suggest a single-seat sports car similar to the McLaren F1, and Aeron is a god of slaughter, but also a “mountain of strength”. Yes, these new McLarens sound pretty good to me.
