McLaren Racing Formula 1 boss Zak Brown mastered with flying colors on the Circuit of the Americas during the F1 US Grand Prix weekend.
Brown paid off his bet with McLaren F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo. Brown said that if Ricciardo got a podium for McLaren in F1 this season, he would ensure Ricciardo got some seat time in a classic 1984 Dale Earnhardt NASCAR Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Not only did Ricciardo reach the Formula 1 podium this year, but he also made it dramatically, winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
“I’ve been a big Dale Earnhardt fan since I was a kid,” Ricciardo told Autoweek at COTA. “And I found out that Zak (Brown, McLaren Team Principal) has a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo that Earnhardt drove in his car collection. And we bet – “You get a podium and I’ll let you drive the car” and that’s how I won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
Ricciardo, a real Earnhardt fan, even drives number 3 in Formula 1.
