McLaren F1 supercar to be auctioned for $ 28 million

McLaren F1 supercar to be auctioned for $ 28 million

This machine is often considered to be the best car ever made, and one example has just been auctioned off at an outrageous price.

Most cars lose their value over time, but some special gems can make a ton of money for owners.

McLaren’s iconic F1 supercar from the 1990s is one such machine. One example sold for about $ 28 million this week in the US.

Only 106 units were built, with prices originally starting at around £ 540,000 (US $ 1.02 million).

The $ 28 million machine is the 25th model built and has just 242 miles (389 km) on the clock.

It was the only F1 that was painted in the color “Creighton Brown” and the interior is equipped with dark brown and light brown leather upholstery.

This McLaren F1 is delivered with the matching original luggage, the watch, the complete tool kit, the instruction manual and the service booklet. It is also equipped with the original tires.

The McLaren F1 is often talked about as the greatest car ever built.

It was conceived by the legendary Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray and is one of the driver-oriented street cars.

The McLaren F1 was the first street machine to use F1 technology with wild aerodynamics and extensive use of carbon fiber in its structure.

The power comes from a 6.1-liter V12-V12 naturally aspirated engine with an output of 461 kW and 600 Nm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox. It reached a top speed of over 386 km / h, which was the record speed for a road car for a long time.

The F1 has a three-seat arrangement with the driver sitting in the middle and two passenger seats set back on either side of the front seat.

McLaren also used gold foil as a heat reflector in the engine compartment of the F1, 16g of the precious metal was used in each car.

British comedian Rowan Atkinson famously crashed his McLaren F1 twice before selling it for about $ 15 million in 2015.

There was an example in Australia but it was sent back to England for repair and it is unclear whether it returned to our shores.

Despite its exorbitant price tag, the McLaren F1 isn’t the most expensive car ever built, this title belongs to a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for nearly $ 100 million a few years ago.

Other Ferrari GTOs sold at extremely high prices, including a $ 66 million example that went under the hammer in 2018

The most expensive car built in Australia was a flawless 1971 Ford Falcon GT-HO, which sold for $ 1.15 million in February of that year.

This price exceeded the previous record set in January this year for a limited edition HSV Maloo GTSR W1.

Originally released as the McLaren F1 supercar, it will be auctioned for $ 28 million
