The extremely rare and legendary McLaren F1 supercar broke its own auction record during Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach event in California over the weekend.
A 1995 model, still in its original condition and with only 243 miles (391 km) on the clock, sold for a whopping $ 20.47 million or CAD 25.69 million at the current exchange rate.
The previous record of $ 19.8 million was set two years ago by an F1 converted to Le Mans specifications by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) in 1994.

Between 1992 and 1998, McLaren only built 106 units of the F1, 64 of them in road car configuration. Designed by Gordon Murray, the F1 features a 6.1-liter, naturally aspirated, centrally-mounted V12 engine that develops 618 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox.
With a confirmed top speed of 240 mph (386 km / h), it is still the fastest production car with a naturally aspirated engine in the world.
The model sold by Gooding & Company was kept in a Japanese private collection and was rarely shown to the public. It is the only model painted in Creighton Brown in combination with a light brown and dark brown leather interior. Many original accessories are also included in the scope of delivery, such as a FACOM tool box, a titanium tool set, an individual case set and a very special TAG Heuer watch.
The identity of the new owner and his country of residence were not disclosed.
