McLaren F1 GTR “Back to the Future” returns once again to the Disrupt Time Continuum

McLaren F1 GTR “Back to the Future” returns once again to the Disrupt Time Continuum

Has any automotive enthusiast failed to hear the words “Back to the Future” and DeLorean DMC-12 mentioned in the same sentence at least once? We’re assuming the opposite, so let’s just get to the part where other vehicles play the role of the latter.

Internet dwellers know very well that some fetishes come and go like a passing comet – aka those wacky milk box challenges or the Squid Game Vogue – while others tend to hang around for years or even decades. There are many examples, but let’s only focus on one singular, special case.

The Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale science fiction comedy franchise belongs to the latter category. And as such, there’s a remarkably high likelihood that even Generation Alpha members know about that old flick called Back to the Future. Or at least about its automotive twist.

Of course, virtual artists are no stranger to its implications and the existence of BTTF Day, a celebration that takes place on October 21st each year. Jon Sibal, the pixel master behind the jonsibal social media account, is an old fox when it comes to CGI matters, so he had plenty of time to play around with the BTTF idea.

So it was more than a year ago when he joined the fight and envisioned another vehicle as the franchise’s time machine star. It is the “Back to the Future: The Animated Series”, contemporary McLaren F1 from 1992, a supercar that is arguably more than suitable for this role. Of course, the virtual artist also showcased his F1 GTR design, themed Back to the Future, when it was time to celebrate last year.

But there’s just one catch: he never showed the front of the build … he apparently stuck to the “back” vibe and only showed the F1 from behind. Well, that eventually changed because the third appearance (and perhaps the last to reflect the trilogy) also marked the arrival of the traditional three-quarter front view. Has anyone noticed that the background just keeps getting better and more detailed?
