MCLAREN AUTOMOTIVE: COPPELL, Texas – August 6, 2021 – McLaren Automotive will celebrate both its future and its past with some truly iconic supercars during Pebble Beach Week – to mark its 10th anniversary in the North American market.
On Friday August 13th, the all-new McLaren Artura will make its public show debut in North America at the Road and Track Clubhouse at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The Artura is the first series-produced high-performance hybrid from McLaren Automotive, representing the distillation of more than half a century of experience in racing and road car construction. The Artura will also be on display at the Pebble Beach Concept Car Lawn on Sunday, August 15th.
The Artura is the first model based on the all-new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which is uniquely optimized for hybrids and is built in-house at the McLaren Composites Technology Center in Sheffield, England. The Artura combines exciting performance, driving dynamics and commitment with EV driving skills. It gave McLaren engineers new opportunities to innovate, most notably how to maintain McLaren’s super-light design philosophy of adding hybrid propulsion elements. The Artura remains true to all the characteristics of a McLaren and is at the same time the most efficient McLaren ever produced.
The all-new 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with twin turbocharging and an electric motor produces a combined output of 671 hp and 531 lb ft. Of torque. The 94 hp electric motor delivers an instant torque of 166 lb ft and provides the sharpest throttle response ever from a McLaren – 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds – while the 7.4 kWh battery is 30 km in electric range supported. Performance is further increased with a curb weight of just 3,303 pounds, the lightest in its class.
An all-new lightweight eight-speed transmission incorporates McLaren’s first electronic differential and new rear suspension, improved electro-hydraulic steering and proactive damping control to improve agility, stability and dynamic performance.
The overall experience is enhanced by a design philosophy for the exterior that gives it a “shrunk”, pure and functional look, while the interior with smartphone mirroring support for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto is completely new. ![]()
The focus of the McLaren Owners Club rally is on both versions of McLaren’s newest vehicle in the Ultimate series – the open-cockpit racer McLaren Elva. Available with or without a windshield, the McLaren Elva celebrates the famous M1A and McLaren-Elva M1A designed by Bruce McLaren [Mk I], M1B [Mk II] and M1C [Mk III] 1960s. Manufactured as customer versions of the innovative and exciting Group 7 McLaren racing cars, McLaren-Elva sports cars embodied many of the groundbreaking design and engineering principles that are essential to the McLaren road cars in production today.
The latest Elva is limited to only 149 versions worldwide and is an extremely fast, extreme two-seater with an open cockpit and a tailor-made carbon fiber chassis and body, but without a roof, no windshield and no side windows. With every increased sensory input, this is a car that exists for incomparable driving pleasure on the road or on the racetrack.
A 4.0 liter McLaren twin turbo V8 from the same family of engines that powers the McLaren Senna and Senna GTR, combined with the lightest vehicle weight of any McLaren Automotive road vehicle to make the superlight new Ultimate Series roadster truly breathtaking make performance across the board, with exceptional acceleration, agility and driver feedback.
On the evening of Friday August 13th, McLaren’s origins in the road car will be celebrated with the highly anticipated sale of a “time capsule” 1995 McLaren F1 from Gooding & Company.
This F1, chassis 029, has seldom been seen in public as it has spent most of its time hidden in a Japanese private collection. Presented in almost “as shipped” condition, this iconic supercar has covered less than 390 kilometers (243 miles) in 26 years and is in pristine original condition.
“The McLaren F1 is widely considered to be the most important automobile built in the last four decades. It’s a tour de force of automotive engineering with an unmatched competitive pedigree, including an overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With just over 100 road and racing F1s ever built, this car will give its next owner entry to an extremely exclusive club.
With its incredibly low mileage and the attractive, unique color combination, this special example offers an almost unprecedented opportunity to acquire an F1 that is almost as delivered. This important car will certainly fight for the top sale of the auction week. “
David Brynan, Senior Specialist, Gooding & Company
The auction will take place in the Gooding & Company marquee at Pebble Beach Parc du Concours on the corner of Stevenson Drive and Portola Road. Interested parties can also follow the sale live from 5:00 p.m. PDT on goodingco.com.
