
Automakers have lined up to claim that their cars will all be electric by the end of the decade. Not to be left out, here is Matchbox telling us that the entire range will be recycled (or recyclable) by 2030.
Even toy cars turn green. Well, perhaps most importantly, toy cars go green. If you’re like us, the nuances of your love for cars – the weird things that make you tick – will find their roots in what you pounded against the baseboard as a kid. Do you give your kids a bunch of electric vehicles and PHEVs and maybe their adoption of such cars naturally follows?
And so we come to the new Matchbox Tesla Roadster, his first toy that consists of 99 percent recycled material and is sold in compostable packaging in a climate-neutral way. Matchbox has shown a number of other die-cast models of electric or hybrid cars – including the BMW i3 and i8 and a Nissan Leaf.
“Matchbox is committed to using 100 percent recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastics to do our part in addressing today’s environmental problems and empowering the next generation of Matchbox fans to lead us into a sustainable future,” he says Stanichi, owner of Mattel’s pretty grand title of Global Head of Vehicles.
A new EV five-pack is being launched, in which plastic packaging is replaced by paper foam. EV charging play sets are also offered, and all of the electronics in wider sets can be easily removed for safe disposal. Of course, the owners of these playsets also have to take responsibility …
