With only 64 road vehicles built, a McLaren F1 doesn’t come up for sale every day. However, if you have a few million dollars tucked away, one is now available through collector car broker Issimi.
This 1995 McLaren F1 was first spotted by GTspirit on Tuesday and is currently located in the US and was originally sold here when it was new, according to the advertisement. It has two owners and a “well-documented history,” the ad copy said, but no further details were given. The ad doesn’t list mileage, but it does say the F1 “has run enough miles to be used,” which means the new owner shouldn’t feel guilty about adding more miles.
Granted, you can’t be choosy when buying an F1. With a 6.1-liter V-12 from BMW, a central driver’s position and an emphasis on lightness, it is still considered one of the best driver’s cars in the world two decades after its debut. The F1 also has an impressive résumé, holding the title of fastest production car in the world in new condition and winning the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The prices reflect that.

The car shown here is the standard street version, but McLaren developed additional variants when it decided to take over F1 racing (which designer Gordon Murray never intended). The racing version that won Le Mans was the GTR, followed by a commemorative LM road car, then the GTR longtail racing car designed to keep the F1 competitive against newer machines.
The F1 remains so iconic that both McLaren and Murray have designed successors. McLaren’s endeavor is the Speedtail, which maintains the central driving position of the F1 but includes a 1,055-horsepower hybrid powertrain and is said to be more of a grand tourer than its predecessor.
Murray has launched the T.50, which underlines the driving experience with a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated V-12 engine with a speed of 12,100 rpm. A harder T.50s version bears the name of the three-time Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda.
