Mathew Scholtz of Strack Racing won the 2025 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship on Saturday with a victory in Race 1 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey. Scholtz secured his second consecutive Supersport title by extending his points lead to an uncatchable margin, according to official MotoAmerica sources.
The South African rider dominated the race, finishing well ahead of the competition and securing an unassailable 46-point lead over his nearest rival, PJ Jacobsen, who placed third in the opening race.
Scholtz clinched the championship with his 10th victory of the 2025 season in Race 1 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, a race shortened from the scheduled 19 laps to 15 for safety reasons after rear-tire issues during qualifying, according to official MotoAmerica sources.
Jacobsen, riding for Rahal Ducati Moto w/XPEL Panigale V2, entered the weekend trailing Scholtz by 21 points, with 50 points available across the two races. Scholtz’s win in Race 1 extended his lead beyond the 25-point margin required to clinch the title a race early, MotoAmerica officials confirmed. Blake Davis finished second in the first race, followed by Austin Petersen in third, Cameron Scott in fourth, and Kayla Yaakov in fifth, according to race results.
In Race 2, Jacobsen responded with a victory on the same Rahal Ducati machine, holding off Scholtz, who finished second after a competitive battle. Corey Alexander, also from Rahal Ducati Moto w/Roller Die + Forming, completed the podium in third place, finishing 13 seconds behind Scholtz and nearly 16.5 seconds off Jacobsen’s winning pace. Jacobsen’s seventh win of the 2025 season did not affect the championship outcome, as Scholtz had already secured the title.
Scholtz’s performance throughout the season has been dominant, with 10 wins in 2025 surpassing his eight victories from the previous championship year, according to season statistics. Over his two title-winning campaigns, Scholtz has amassed 18 wins in 36 MotoAmerica Supersport races. He also secured pole position for the NJMP finale with a lap time of 1:27.889, records show.
The championship finale at NJMP in Millville, New Jersey, marked the conclusion of the 2025 MotoAmerica Supersport season. Strack Racing’s Yamaha YZF-R6, piloted by Scholtz, proved consistently competitive, enabling the rider to wrap up the Motovation Supersport Championship emphatically, according to official statements from MotoAmerica and Yamaha Motorsports. The event drew attention for Scholtz’s ability to maintain a commanding lead despite challenges posed by competitors like Jacobsen and Blake Davis.
Jacobsen’s teammate, Kayla Yaakov, secured fifth place in Race 1, while Austin Petersen and Cameron Scott rounded out the top five finishers in the opening race. Stefano Mesa qualified second for the event, though he did not finish among the top five in Race 1, according to qualifying and race data.
MotoAmerica officials noted that Scholtz’s victory in Race 1 was decisive, as he distanced himself from the pack early and avoided involvement in the battles for lower positions. The race’s reduction in laps was implemented as a precaution following Scholtz’s tire issues during qualifying, ensuring rider safety without diminishing the competitive integrity of the event.
With the 2025 season concluded, Scholtz’s back-to-back Supersport titles underscore his sustained excellence in the series. The next MotoAmerica season is anticipated to begin in 2026, with teams and riders expected to prepare for the upcoming challenges.
