Lando Norris: “I could have been a position or two higher”

Lando Norris: "I could have been a position or two higher"

Lando Norris was disappointed only qualifying for seventh place Saudi Arabia Grand Prix On Saturday evening he left a lot of time on the table with the British feeling in his best lap in Q3.

the McLaren F1 team Driver believed he could have qualified in up to fourth or fifth place Jeddah Corniche Circuitbut in the end he didn’t put the lap together when it mattered, and he stayed in row four of the grid instead of row two.

The other factor Norris has to think about is the fact that he was the only rider in the top ten to run Sunday’s race on the soft. starts Pirelli Tire, with everyone around him on the middle mix.

“I’m really disappointed with the end of qualifying,” said Norris. “Happy that we are still P7, because today it could have been worse.

“I had a bit of bad luck with yellow flags throughout qualifying, but I could still have been a position or two higher as I didn’t get the best lap when I had to, so I’m a bit frustrated. With the soft tire I have a small advantage at the start, I have to take advantage of that, but it will be much more difficult for the rest of the race.

“I’m still in a good position to take a few points tomorrow so we’ll see what we can do.”

“Today we were much faster than P11” – Daniel Ricciardo

Teammate Daniel Ricciardo was even more disappointed when he missed the top ten after showing good pace early in the session as a curb damaged the underside of his MCL35M.

Ricciardo had done it with Norris throughout qualifying after improving the car before the session, but it was clear to the Australian that some pace was gone once he hit the curb.

“We had a fast car, but I only suffered one damage in the last race and lost a lot of time,” said Ricciardo. “I damaged the ground on a curb and it dragged on the straight.

“I’ve seen the lap time go down. It’s a shame because we were much faster than P11 today. I’ve used this curb many times, but this time it took a little damage. We made a good setup change for qualifying, so I felt good and had pace, we were just unlucky. “
