His ability to get started right away and fight alongside teammate Charles Leclerc was instrumental in the Maranello team’s battle with their old team McLaren for third place in the Constructors’ Championship.
An interesting aspect of his move to Ferrari was how he chose a clutch arrangement similar to that of his previous team.
Rather than sticking to the single-wishbone-style paddle arrangement, first introduced by his predecessor Sebastian Vettel and adopted by Leclerc, Sainz opted for a double paddle arrangement.
Like the setup used during his McLaren days, Sainz’s paddles also have a socket on the end so he can place his index and second fingers in it for added modulation and feel.

This is in common with an arrangement that Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen used before switching to the single paddle setup.
Raikkonen insisted on the double version and had the paddles horizontal to the wheel. Sainz however chose to have them mounted at an angle that better suited his needs.
It’s also interesting that while Sainz seems to have made adjustments to the front of the steering wheel less critical to comfort, it appears to have shortened the paddle shifters on his steering wheel compared to Leclerc.
These changes may seem small at first, but even tiny ergonomic changes can have an important impact on performance, especially when we consider the importance of a race start.
