“It's a compliment to... Lando”: Daniel Ricciardo Belittled Amid McLaren F1 Woes as Norris Wins High Acclaim

When Daniel Ricciardo joined Mclaren, everybody thought he would carry the torch, but Lando Norris had other ideas. The Australian, being the more experienced driver, was expected to outperform his teammate. But Lando Norris did not shy away from a fight for the first place within the team. The 22-year-old has been consistently performing for Mclaren and overshadowing Ricciardo.

It might be surprising to some, but Lando Norris delivering week in and week out is not a surprise to the Mclaren boss. Zak Brown, already aware of Lando’s quality, added another exceptional driver to the team in Daniel. However, in his second season with the Mclaren, Brown says Ricciardo is yet to get comfortable with the car.

More importantly, though, Zak Brown believes Norris is one of the best in the world. During a Sky sports interview, he said, “You know when you look at the gap between Charles and Carlos, gap between Max and Sergio. You know there are gaps between teammates and I think Lando is one of the best drivers in the world at the moment.”

“It also is a kind of compliment to how good Lando is when you see the gap that exists.”

And currently the gap Brown talks about is immense. Speaking about the problems with Ricciardo, Brown said, “We tried everything we can, again it was a disappointing weekend… but not kinda met his or our expectations as far as what we’re expecting.”

Harsh words for the Honey Badger as his struggles with Mclaren continue.

Norris proved nothing is above racing as he pushes past his illness to finish eighth. The Brit suffering from tonsillitis was visibly sick all weekend but powered through. Lando failed to do well in qualifying as he passed the track limits because of limited visibility on account of his poor health. But the Brit drove a powerful race, which may be his hardest race ever.

“Today was tough. I was feeling really unwell before the race as I’m suffering with tonsillitis, and that, in combination with the high temperatures, made this one of the hardest races I’ve ever done,” commented Lando on his illness.
