In a sport where you are just as good as in your last race, Daniel Ricciardo is a lean P13. Once a man with successive Shoeys on the podium, Ricciardo now often fights for a place in the midfield. With an average performance at Renault and a deplorable debut season underway at McLaren, everyone is wondering if Red Bull was the right team for them.

Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull, sat down with Beyond The Grid, the official Formula 1 podcast, and briefly looked back on Ricciardo’s days at RBR.

Tom Clarkson asked Horner about Ricciardo’s regrets at leaving Red Bull. Horner replied: “When he announced that he was leaving Renault, he called me during the shutdown last year.” Horner then smiled at what Ricciardo had said to him.

Ricciardo said: “You’re probably thinking ‘I told you’ and yes you did. “ On Daniel’s departure from RedBull, Horner says that “it was a decision that he considered necessary at the time. “

What will happen to Daniel Ricciardo?
After Daniel had driven for 5 glorious years with Red Bull, Daniel’s sudden departure came as a surprise to everyone. He may have triggered the Red Bull drivers curse for not being able to deal with Max’s position on the team.
With the Red Bull cap on, he looked for a chance for a championship title. What later turned out to be a bad strategic decision, however, put the honey badger on the Renault cap. After two disappointing years with two P3s on the podium, he changed gears and joined McLaren to drive the papaya-colored car.

In what appears to be a trial-and-error process, the master overtaker’s career hasn’t been the same since 2018. 2021 turns out to be another disappointing season for Ricciardo. The driver finds it difficult to adjust to the MCL35M while his teammate Lando Norris scores points with every race.

Daniel Ricciardo claims to be someone who doesn’t regret it. But everyone wonders where they could have been if they had stayed with the team that currently leads the Constructors’ Championship. Christian Horner acknowledges the efforts of the driver and says: “It’s sad to see he’s having the struggles he’s having right now … for sure he’ll get through them. “

It’s certainly something we all want – Ricciardo on the podium sipping the winner’s champagne straight out of the shoe.
