Gran Turismo 7 will feature over 400 cars when it debuts in March 2022

RACING SIMULATOR Gran Turismo 7 will include over 400 cars when it is released next March, according to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

In a new behind-the-scenes interview, Yamauchi said the new game will feature more than 400 of “many of the most fascinating cars in automotive history.” That number is significantly lower, however, than other titles like Gran Turismo 6 and Forza Motorsport 7, which both have around 1,200 and 700 cars, respectively.

The interview snippet allowed the game’s creators, Polyphony Digital, to reveal even more cars that will be featured in the upcoming game. Classic racing cars such as the Porsche 917, Ferrari 250 GTO and the Sauber-Mercedes C9 as well as a number of road vehicles such as the Peugeot 208 GTi, Aston Martin DB5, Toyota 2000GT and Pontiac Trans can be seen in one run-through of the clip. Am.

The latest clip comes just a week after another similar video in which Yamauchi ponders the nature of car culture. Again, the highlight was a preview of some of the cars that would be featured in the game. Road vehicles spotted include at least two generations of Porsche 911s, a Nissan Skyline R33, and the Chevrolet Corvette C4 – a Gran Turismo veteran that’s been part of the series since its inception.

Race cars include another Gran Turismo favorite, the Chaparal 2J ground effect car, the McLaren F1 GTR, the 1968 Alpine A220 and Lewis Hamilton’s 2017 Mercedes F1 cars, all rendered with exquisite detailing.

Although no specific new tracks can be recognized in the latest videos, it is clear from earlier clips that real tracks such as Tsukuba, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, Le Mans and Laguna Seca will return as well as fictional tracks such as Trial Mountain Ring and High Speed Ring. Players will also be able to tackle snow and gravel rally stages just like in the previous games.

According to the creators, the variable time and weather systems have been improved compared to previous parts of the Gran Turismo series, which is intended to give players a more realistic experience, especially in endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. where the weather can change quickly and drivers have to race through the night.

In addition to the traditional “campaign” mode, where players win races to earn money to unlock a growing selection of cars, Yamauchi says the new game will appeal to players who want to do other things besides Gran Turismo, like creating collections of cars, designing paint jobs, or taking photos in-game.

Gran Turismo 7’s March 4th launch date comes after a long series of delays for the game. When it was first announced in June 2020, the original release date was planned for the first quarter of 2021; However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this date has been postponed several times.

The decision to not only release the game on the PlayStation 5 as originally intended, but also on the PlayStation 4 – to increase its potential market share – could have delayed its release even further. This raised concerns for some that it would stifle the game’s technical capabilities, but given the current PlayStation 5 shortage, partly due to the global semiconductor shortage, as well as the fact that around 115 million PlayStation 4s have already been sold The decision may well have been pragmatic.

Gran Turismo 7 is currently available for pre-order from PlayStation Store. The PlayStation 4 game is available for £ 59.99 while the version for the PlayStation 5 starts at £ 69.99. Also available exclusively for the PlayStation 5 is the Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes preinstalled with 1.5 million in-game credits, a special Toyota GR Yaris, 30 PlayStation Network avatars and the separate, official Gran Turismo 7 soundtrack.
