Gordon Murray T.33 debuts on January 27th, becomes "GT supercar"

Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA), the new auto company founded by McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, is just weeks away from the unveiling of a successor to his T.50 supercar.

The new supercar is expected to be named T.33, a trademark GMA was registered for with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last year, and the covers will be removed on Jan. 27, the company said Thursday.

GMA has dubbed the car the “Super Sports Car GT”, suggesting that it is better suited for long tours than the T.50. The company also said the new supercar will be fully designed and built at its recently built headquarters in Windlesham, UK

In an interview with Auto Express published Thursday, Murray hinted that the new supercar will feature the T.50’s 3.9-liter V-12, and that it will likely be the company’s last naturally aspirated model without any electrification except maybe a mild hybrid setup.

“We have been looking at future regulations for a very long time and we can now introduce a normal suction model,” he said. “The money it cost us to build [T.50’s V-12 and transmission] from the bottom up we have to try to come back a little. “

Don’t expect the new supercar to be simply a new twist on the T.50, like the T.50s Niki Lauda racing car. In his interview with Auto Express, Murray said the new supercar will feature a different platform from the T.50, whose platform had a unique design that required the installation of a rear-mounted fan and a central driving position. This suggests the new supercar will feature a more conventional two-seater layout and will skip the fan.

Interestingly, Murray also said that GMA will only ever build 100 copies of each of its cars in order to keep them exclusive. He said the T.50 would remain the halo, so the new supercar will be more affordable but still expensive due to limited production. The T.50 will go into production shortly, with prices starting at 2.36 million pounds sterling (approximately 3.2 million US dollars). The new super sports car is scheduled to go into production in 2023.

In addition to the new super sports car, GMA will develop hybrids and even electric cars. Last May, GMA announced that it was creating a new Gordon Murray Electronics division to develop electrified powertrains and an electric vehicle platform.
