The legendary automobile designer Gordon Murray – known as the brain of the McLaren F1 supercar of the 90s – is currently working on a small, lightweight electric SUV, as the Briton Forbes told.
“The goals we have set for this vehicle are pretty strong … We see a small B-segment car, four meters long, four or five seats, and we want to be one. third lighter than the competition … [with] C-segment space in a B-segment vehicle, ”Murray told the point of sale.
“We set some pretty tough goals for ourselves, but we think we can get pretty close.”
The vehicle is reportedly part of a £ 300 million (AU $ 550 million) company-wide investment to create a new division called Gordon Murray Electronics (GME), charged with “being the lightest, most efficient and build the world’s most advanced electric vehicle [platforms]. ”
In addition to the above-mentioned SUV, the newly developed skateboard chassis is also intended to support a small electric delivery van that is intended to “attract customers and partners who want to mass-produce”.
The company is currently developing a $ 4 million “spiritual successor” to the McLaren F1, the T.50, which will be the last analog supercar before the electric age and is slated for 2022.
