“Fight some of these feelings”

F1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi - Daniel Ricciardo at the drivers' press conference.

Daniel Ricciardo commented on the stresses and strains of the 2021 F1 season. The Australian spoke about the feelings of self-doubt and belief he felt after his season went downhill and how he had to “fight” those feelings.

Ricciardo said:

“After Monza it does a lot of things. Things like belief and self-doubt and all of that is definitely going to be questioned in the first half of the year, and yes, to combat some of those feelings. But then realizing Monza like that is comforting as I do I’ve proven myself that anything I still believed in is possible and the team around me was certainly behind me, but we’re kind of waiting for this moment. “

Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza after Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton failed dramatically at Turn 1. The driver, who looked strong all weekend, won the race, followed by McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, who followed closely behind P2. This remains Ricciardo’s only win so far this season.

The Australian also commented on the problems he had in adapting to his McLaren F1 car and that it took him a long time to adapt his driving style to the way the car feels. Ricciardo’s season has been particularly downhill after the driver failed to score points at the Mexico, Brazil and Qatar Grands Prix.

As every cloud has a silver lining, Daniel Ricciardo saw this true when he finished the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix in P5 and perhaps showed that he is comfortable in the car.

Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren are fighting for the constructors’ championship on P3

McLaren drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris are currently struggling to keep up with almost 40 points in the battle for third place in the constructors’ championship against Ferrari. Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have shown remarkable consistency for the Italian manufacturer, surpassing Norris and Ricciardo in most cases.

With only the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix left, McLaren appears to be on the losing side and will have to try again in the 2022 season. The team needs a 1-2 to keep Ferrari from securing P3 in the main race on Sunday.

With new regulations and higher downforce cars, the 2022 season is expected to be a great balance between the teams, at least on paper.
