I’ve noticed that it’s not just RVs, motorcycles, private jets, and SUVs that are available started selling like hot cakes since the beginning of the pandemic. Apparently, even rich people can’t get enough personal submarines. Before you get into this factoid, let me introduce you to one of the newest luxury submarines to drop into the water. The Triton 660/9 AVA is basically a living room / lounge that you can take 660 feet underwater.

Triton was launched in Florida in 2007 and has some pretty cute machines. It is DSV limiting factor, holds the record for the deepest manned descent, reaching 35,843 feet in Challenger Deep. Usually referred to as the 36000/2 Full Ocean Depth, this submarine can be yours for the low price of $ 48 million and is certified to dive anywhere, no matter how deep. But if you want your dive boat to be a party ship, there is one 660/9 AVA.

As Triton’s naming scheme suggests, this submarine doesn’t sink to 36,000 feet, but to just 660. But in exchange for depth, you get a large living room for you and eight of your best friends. The pilot of the sub sits in the middle like a McLaren F1 and the rest of the space in the acrylic bubble is configurable. Triton sees owners using these for quite ridiculous purposes, to be honest.

Would you like to have a game of poker with more steps? Hop into your 600/9 AVA, dive down somewhere, and then set up a chart table.

Would you like to have lunch at 600 feet? Sure, but the food will likely be cold by the time you get there.

That said, I really love the idea of hosting a wedding in one of these.

The inside width is 12 feet which is big enough for some fun. The entire ship measures 9.02 feet in length, 14.8 feet in breadth and 7.5 feet in height.

It also weighs 24,250 pounds. Don’t expect to haul this thing to the lake with your crossover.

If you start it up and climb in through the top hatch, it has a top speed of about 3.5 mph and can run for 12 hours; enough for a good day underwater. You get air conditioning, heating, a sound system, and lots of indoor and outdoor lighting. These outdoor lights have 20,000 lumens each.

Triton makes the pressure hull from what are known as Advanced Versatile Acrylics, which enable the company to make a strong pressure hull in a variety of shapes. And if the nine-seater is too big, the company also offers a smaller 660/7 and even a 660/2 that looks like a tiny underwater sports car.

If you’re wondering if this is just a concept, Triton told Robb Report that three of them have already been sold. Unfortunately it was not stated how much these customers paid. Still, I think it’s great that this ridiculous sub is actually a thing.
