Forza Horizon 5 is very similar to your local used car dealer in that both dominate your television screen for hours at night with the siren chanting “500 cars !!!” So the question is not whether you are buying a new car. Rather, it is what you are going to buy.

Playground games’ celebrated open world racing driver, which is now available for Xbox and PC (via Game Pass for both), not only impresses with more than 500 cars. What is impressive is that each car is tailor-made and that it differs significantly from the other 499 in terms of handling. The result is a dizzying range. Some cars are great. Some not so much. And a few are really the best in their class, part of an exclusive red rope club that you would only find on a parkway off the Ligurian coast. Not to mention how you can fine-tune the specifications like tire pressure, spring stiffness, caster angle, brake pressure, etc. yourself at the start of every race.

Period: I don’t care about that stuff. I can’t even honestly say I get it. If you’re looking for a list of the best cars in Forza Horizon 5 based on math and physics and all that, you’re probably better off looking elsewhere. (Credit where it’s due, the good people at Eurogamer have an impressive overview.)

My key metric for choosing the best cars in Forza Horizon 5 is quite simply: “Car go fast make vroom”. This is not just a measure of how fast a vehicle can go straight away, but also a measure of a completely subjective equation that takes into account how well it drives, how much it costs, and how beautiful it looks in screenshots. Forza Horizon 5, at the end of the day, is all about getting behind the wheel of cool rides that are a great ride. According to this standard, these are the crème de la crème.
