Since Netflix took its place in the F1 paddock to film Drive to Survive in 2018, an unlikely trend has taken hold. Whenever they spent a race weekend with a team, that team got poor results.
Mercedes was known for this “curse” in 2019. They had Netflix in the paddock during the German Grand Prix, where they celebrated 125 years of motorsport heritage. Although they did well in qualifying, they couldn’t win the race. While Lewis Hamilton spent almost a minute in a mistaken pit stop, Valtteri Bottas crashed due to wetness.
However, this stroke of bad luck did not stop McLaren at Monza last Sunday. During an appearance on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Ricciardo announced that the Netflix film crew had been in the garage of the British outfit all weekend.
He said, “What’s really cool is that Netflix is following a team every weekend and Monza they were with us. So that was the perfect setting. “
