Daniel Ricciardo has switched teams frequently to find one that would meet his ambitions to become F1 world champion. He finally found his way to McLaren after the team courted him when he left Red Bull to drive for Renault. Ricciardo reveals how he wants to help the team and what his long-term goals are.
The Australian has had a decade in Formula 1 in which he played a total of four teams. He cut ties with Red Bull in 2018 after failing to see the team helping him with his ambition to win a world title. He was impressed with the project at Renault, but when he got there he was very overwhelming in his performance, earning only two podiums during his two year stint there.
The Aussie believes McLaren could be the perfect team to realize their ambitions.
Daniel Ricciardo wants to add to the history of McLaren
In an interview on F1’s YouTube channel, Daniel Ricciardo spoke about his first feelings at McLaren.
“It’s pretty surreal to be on a team like that. I saw it on TV as a kid and I am very familiar with the McLaren colors. To be a part of it, it’s a moment of masturbation, but you’re quick to block that and just focus on getting the job done. “
The Aussie enumerated his goals with the team and how he plans to help them.
“Definitely, to get my name for some of the trophies at the MTC (McLaren Technology Center), this is one. And really just look back at the year and know that I’ve made a difference. I think the team has just done something great in the last 24 months.
“And I want to feel like I’ve really contributed to it. I want to ride the wave they are on and weightlifting too. And look back and say all right. This team took the extra step because of my input, drive and determination and all the other things. ”
How will the Aussie be doing at McLaren?
Daniel Ricciardo may just have found the ideal home for a driver of his talents. McLaren has generally been on the rise and has performed very well over the past two seasons. With the Mercedes engine for this season, they looked even faster.

The Australian is expected to make it into the top seven of the drivers’ standings. He should also try to help the team achieve their goal of becoming the third best team in F1. If he and the team can do that, the sky’s the limit of what they can achieve in the landmark 2022 season. This season would be a better yardstick for judging how far they have come.
