The Australian certainly looked quite out of shape and still finds his way in the team after 6 race weekends. From today’s point of view, the honey badger is hardly sticking to the top 10, as he has scored a meager 26 points in contrast to the 66 points of his teammate.

In the midst of such a start to the 2021 season, Ricciardo reckoned he’d been in that position in the past. On top of that, the Australian also admitted he would fall in love for the sport as a result.

What did Daniel Ricciardo say?

Speaking to F1’s Lawrence Barretto, Ricciardo talked about his difficult debut season with the McLaren F1 team. “I’ve been here before, whether at this level or not, in Formula 1 or not,” he said.

“Of course you always have these ups and downs. I fall in love with the sport at least once a year! It is always done that way [to me] and it will probably continue to do so. “

Similar to his current phase at McLaren, his first days with his predecessor team Renault were not convincing either.

Hence, it definitely meant that Ricciardo would take his own sweet time to get a feel for his car. However, once he manages to overcome that particular barrier, he would be an unstoppable force.

Now that Ricciardo has spent almost 3 months on the track with McLaren, it’s only a matter of time before he starts delivering lap times so challenging that Lando Norris has a hard time.

I find perspective in the bad days: Ricciardo

The honey badger revealed that he always had the ability to leave a tough weekend behind rather quickly and concentrate on the following weekend.

“But the good thing about me is that I can always wake up on Monday morning after having a [tough race like] Monaco, and be full steam ahead again. I’ll be in the garbage dump for the next week, ”he said.

“I’ll be sad on Sunday evening if I have to, but then I’ll wake up on Monday morning with fresh motivation. I’ll say to myself, ‘I don’t like that feeling. What should I do to change it? ‘ In bad days I will definitely find a perspective. “

Overall, it wouldn’t necessarily be a difficult task for Ricciardo to recover from such a positive attitude. So can Ricciardo finally develop his true pace on the coming race weekend in France? Well only time will tell.
