Christian Horner from Red Bull: "An enormously frustrating end to the weekend"

Christian Horner says Red Bull Racing still got everything to play despite a frustrating one Hungarian Grand Prix saw they admit their advantage in both the driver and constructors’ standings.

Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were overtaken in a first lap, first corner crash initiated by Valtteri Bottas, and although the Dutchman was able to continue, the Mexican had to retire before the end of the lap with significant damage to his RB16B.

Verstappen’s car was also badly damaged in the incident McLaren F1 team‘S Lando Norris, and Red Bull’s mechanics have done wonders to fix the red flag car to the point where it has a chance of scoring points.

In the end, Verstappen struggled with the damage throughout the race, but he managed to save two points with ninth place. Unfortunately, Lewis HamiltonSecond place meant that Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team Driver took over the top of the driver standings.

“It is of course an enormously frustrating end to the weekend, but we are only 10 points away from first place in the championship during the summer break, which means that it is about everything,” said Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull.

“Unfortunately Bottas braked late at Turn 1 and eliminated our two cars, Checo had to give up immediately and because of the considerable damage to the right side of Max’s car, he had no chance to fight at the front.

“Our mechanics, who did miracles to get Max’s car back for the race, deserve our full praise once again. The temperatures were excessive and they had to straighten pipes in no time and fix the right side as well as possible before making the fastest pit stop again, which is quite remarkable.

“It’s also disappointing not to have seen what Checo had in store today as his start was impressive and he felt very confident about the car and its racing speed. Despite the extensive damage and downforce, Max fought hard and secured a point that could turn out to be decisive at the end of the year. ”

“There are many positive things that you can take with you on the summer break”

Horner says the results in Hungary cost Red Bull a lot, both in the championship and financially, but they can still go into the summer break with confidence that they have a car good enough to be at the top for the week of the field fighting week out.

“There is no doubt that this has cost us a lot today, financially in a world of cost caps, points and for Honda now having to understand whether Checo’s engine can be saved, but there are many positive aspects to be seen in the summer break can take away. ” said Horner.

“We have clinched six victories with the most competitive chassis and drive package in years and the entire team is fully motivated. We’ll take a few weeks off, recharge, and fight for the second half of this championship.

“We have already seen such close title fights and are not giving up anything. The point difference between the first two in both championships is still very small, it will be an epic second half this year and we are ready for it. “
