Brown offers Mostert a unique test opportunity as a Bathurst Prize Reward

Brown offers Mostert a unique test opportunity as a Bathurst Prize Reward

Brown, who is part of the Walkinshaw Andretti United squad for which Mostert and Lee Holdsworth win the Blue Ribband event in Australia, posted a ride on his ex-Alan Moffat Chevrolet Monza sports sedan on Twitter today.

The offer is in response to a joke by Mostert that, like McLaren F1 racing driver Daniel Ricciardo earlier this year, he should try something from Brown’s extensive collection.

As a reward for winning the Italian Grand Prix earlier this year, Ricciardo was given the chance to drive Brown’s ex-Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR.

Ricciardo did laps in the car his hero drove at the Circuit of the Americas during the US Grand Prix weekend.

Although there was no pre-race bet when Mostert drove to Bathurst, Mostert brought the idea up during the press conference after he and Holdsworth dominated on Sunday.

“We never really agreed on anything, but I think he definitely owes me now,” said Mostert.

“I’d better look in his garage and figure out what I want to drive.”

James Moffat, who finished second alongside Cam Waters at Bathurst, agreed to the proposal of his father’s Monza, which is now in Brown’s collection.

“That sounds pretty cool, that would be a good story,” said Mostert. “Would you like to come too, Moff?”

Moffat replied, “Yes, I’ll wipe the windshield for you.”

Alan Moffat drove the car in the 1975 IMSA series before shipping it to Australia. He used both this car and a Ford Capri RS3100 to win the first Australian sports sedan championship in 1976.

The Monza, owned by Brown earlier this year, isn’t the only Australian-related car in Brown’s collection.

He also owns the Williams FW07B, with which Alan Jones drove to victory in the 1980 Australian Grand Prix at Calder Park, and the Holden Racing Team Commodore, with which Garth Tander and Nick Percat won the Bathurst 1000 in 2011.

This HRT Holden was the last Walkinshaw car to win the Great Race until the Mostert / Holdsworth triumph on Sunday.

The purchase of this car resulted in Brown eventually buying into the WAU team alongside Ryan Walkinshaw and Michael Andretti.
