LONDON, November 30th (Reuters) – McLaren’s Lando Norris has announced that he is moving from England to Monaco for financial reasons.
The 22-year-old Brit has had an outstanding season with his team from Woking and signed a multi-year contract extension in May.
“Obviously a lot of motorists do that,” he told British media. “In racing in particular, we saw with other drivers how fast things can go downhill.

“I still have to take care of my life and things for my future.”
Monaco is home to many of its Formula 1 rivals, including compatriot and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and McLaren teammate Daniel Ricciardo from Australia.
Hamilton has been criticized for his tax regimes and Norris, already a fan favorite, also expected a negative reaction.
“But people do a lot of things in life for money. That’s just another,” he said.
Norris entered Formula 1 in 2019 and has made four podiums this season and is fifth in the overall standings in two remaining races.
As the youngest British Formula 1 driver in the history of the sport, he lives near the McLaren factory to learn as much as possible – and enjoys local golf courses.
He said in April that he wanted to have fun with friends and see his family regularly, stating: “I don’t want to do my job in Formula 1 and I don’t want to enjoy the things around it”.
Now, however, it was time to move farther away, even if he would still be spending a lot of time at the factory.
“I’ve said many times that for me, having fun and having fun and having fun in what I do comes first … so it’s not an easy decision,” he said.
“I just feel that I am in good hands to make this decision.”
