
With the conclusion of the first triple header of the season, all attention is focused on the tenth round of the season with the British GP. This weekend’s race at Silverstone will be full for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

To make the occasion special, F1 is hosting the 70th Anniversary Show of Historic Cars at Silverstone. And this is where McLaren CEO Zak Brown will get behind the wheel of the 1978 Lotus 79.
Mario Andretti originally drove the Lotus 79 during the 1978 Formula 1 championship. The American is one of only two drivers to have won races in Formula 1, IndyCar, the World Sportscar Championship and NASCAR.

Lotus 79 proved to be unbeatable during the 1978 World Cup. The car won its very first race at the Belgian GP and took five more victories this year. As a result, both Mario Andretti and Lotus won the 1978 drivers ‘and constructors’ championships.
The car last competed in the Hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021, where Daniel Ricciardo drove Ayrton Senna’s MP4 / 5B.

What did McLaren team boss Zak Brown say?
“It’s going to be a great event this year at the British Grand Prix. It is a real honor to attend the Historic Cars 70th Anniversary demonstration and a full fan base will make it a mega weekend, ”said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
