the Alpine F1 team secured himself after a colon scoring at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso was eighth with Esteban Ocon right behind in ninth place Yas Marina Racetrack.
Both Alpines fought hard throughout the race and were stuck in the same DRS platoon for most of the time. Ocon pitted first while Alonso made the most of a VSC to buy plenty of time for his rivals. In the end, the two crossed the finish line in eighth and ninth respectively and secured the team fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
It’s been a year full of surprises for Alpine, with the win in Hungary and the podium in Qatar the team has sometimes shown signs of real pace this season. If they can perform more consistently in 2022, there is no reason why they shouldn’t fight for third place in the next Constructors season.
Alpine boss Laurent RossiHe was one of many to congratulate Max Verstappen on his world title before talking about what a year it was for the team.
“First of all, congratulations to Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes on a fantastic season finale. It was a brilliant end to a captivating year in Formula 1 and the perfect advertisement for a fun sport in which we have the privilege to compete. The drama they created today only makes us hungrier at the top of the grid to battle for victories and championships in the near future.
“That is our ultimate goal and we are not going to give up the hard work for it. Our race today was a fitting end to a very memorable campaign. Both Fernando and Esteban fought hard and dug deep to score double points. Thanks to them, to the strategists, to the pit stop crew and to everyone at Enstone and Viry who contributed to this success and to consolidating fifth place in the championship.
“I wish everyone in the team a Merry Christmas while we keep an eye on future opportunities, especially from next year with the rule changes. Thank you to everyone on both sides of the channel for a great season crowned by memorable races like Fernando’s podium and Esteban’s victory. We want to create more memories and moments like these and will remain motivated yet humble to achieve our goals. “
