Bespoke McLaren Speedtail combines two very special colors

Bespoke McLaren Speedtail combines two very special colors

McLaren’s Beverly Hills dealership is about to receive one of the wildest speedtails we’ve seen yet.

McLaren unveiled a Speedtail on Wednesday that was commissioned by the dealer and has a paint job that matches the design used by McLaren on a 2018 Speedtail prototype. It is one of the last examples of the speedtail run with 106 units and is adorned in a fade starting with Ueno Gray in the front and Magnesium Silver in the back.

Magnesium Silver is the color used for the McLaren F1 on its debut at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix and later featured on numerous covers of car magazines. Ueno Gray, meanwhile, matches the color of the Ueno-sponsored F1 GTR, which took overall victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995. And these lines on the car? According to McLaren, they represent the optimized airflow pattern.

Wondering how long did it take to paint the car? Well the answer is over 12 weeks with all work being done by McLaren’s MSO personalization department.

McLaren Speedtail “Albert”

McLaren calls the car Albert. This is the nickname McLaren uses for the Speedtail prototype with the same livery and comes from Albert Drive in Woking, UK, the street where the original facility where the F1 was designed and built is located. Today this facility is the home of MSO.

If you are in the Los Angeles area you can get an up close look at the car as it will be on display at the Sunset GT Cars and Coffee event in O’Gara Beverly Hills on August 8th but make a sale. The car is already sold.

McLaren calls the Speedtail the spiritual successor to the F1, as it was designed more as a grand tourer than a racing car. It even has a three-seat layout with the driver’s seat in the middle, just like it did in the F1 … and the upcoming GMA T.50, aka Gordon Murray’s own spiritual successor to the F1 he designed.

The power in the Speedtail comes from a hybrid setup that combines a 4.0-liter V8 with twin turbocharging and a single electric motor, with the drive only being sent to the rear wheels. Peak power is 1,055 horsepower and 848 lb-ft of torque, making the Speedtail 250 mph.
