Here’s whether the McLaren Speedtail Albert will crush the Bugatti Chiron

Here's whether the McLaren Speedtail Albert will crush the Bugatti Chiron

Last week, McLaren announced some exciting news – it is building just 106 examples of the staggering $ 2.1 million Speedtail that takes exclusivity to the next level.

The Albert is one-of-a-kind unveiled by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the division focused on turning the automotive fantasies of the mega-rich into reality. It was commissioned by McLaren Beverly Hills.

Parris Mullins of McLaren Beverly Hills told Autocar that it is very important to us at McLaren Beverly Hills that Albert honors the rich heritage of the brand and, in particular, pays tribute to the icon that is the McLaren F1. ‘

In terms of performance and design, however, the Albert could face stiff competition from the 2021 Bugatti Chiron reported last year. As the successor to the legendary Veyron, the Chiron unites the legacy of its brand and the performance of its predecessor and unites them into one competent and incredible machine. As with many Bugatti models, the price range is $ 3 million.

According to our current state of knowledge, which model appears better? Let’s find out.

What we know so far about the McLaren Speedtail Albert

Given that news about the Albert didn’t become available until this week, there is more information available. For all we know so far, however, the car was named after the name of the 1992 McLaren F1 test, named after Albert Drive in Woking, where Gordon Murray’s stunning supercar was designed and manufactured.

The original MVY02 Speedtail prototype was also named as a tribute to its predecessor Albert. It was created to test the main driving position and ergonomics, visibility and rear view camera positions of the Speedtail. It was originally built with the front panels of a 720S and was the first Speedtail to be tested on public roads.

The Albert made its debut on Sunday August 8th at the Sunset GT in Los Angeles, a luxury-focused Cars and Coffee event.

The production-specific Albert mimics the camoflage paintwork of the prototype, with an intricate paintwork with a gradient flow of gray lines that represent the airflow over the model. The vehicle is painted in magnesium silver, which is the same color as the first F1 road car presented at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, and in Ueno gray that adorned the F1 GTR that featured at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans triumphed. Apparently the MSO spent 12 weeks completing the paint job.

While there is no news about the size of the Albert engine, Car and Driver reports that its engine output will be 1,035 horsepower. Nevertheless, Robb Report names 1,070 hp. Either way, like many McLaren cars, it promises to be a fast vehicle.

Thanks to its setup, the three-seater accelerates from zero to 300 km / h in just 12.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km / h. Impressive.

Since his code name was ‘MVY02-BP23 Hybrid Prototype’, this suggests that he will have a hybrid engine.

Has the McLaren Speedtail Albert been better than the Bugatti Chiron so far?

In hindsight, Car and Driver were wrong when they said the Chiron was a bargain when it comes to supercars. When they reviewed the Chiron, they cost $ 2,990,000, which definitely makes McLaren’s new car cheaper in comparison, but some may argue that drivers get more for their money with the Chiron.

Powered by a gigantic 16-cylinder engine that is a marvel of modern engineering, the Chiron can zoom in at 300 mph and beyond, while the Albert can zoom up to 250 mph. Both are fast cars, but this Bugatti model seems to be the faster. In addition, there is an engine output of 1,578 hp, which puts the Albert’s figure in the shade.

The Chiron does not offer Apple CarPlay, but that is irrelevant. The interior is made of fine materials that make the price absolutely worthwhile. Details on the Albert’s interior are sparse for now, but McLaren need to make sure it’s on par if they hope to beat Bugatti.

Both cars have sleek exterior design, with the Albert having a more futuristic look.

For everyone looking for a sports car that is a little cheaper but promises a lot of thrills, the Albert is the better choice. Be warned – there are only a limited number of units. In terms of engine power, the Chiron is superior to the Albert. Whichever readers choose, there is no way they will be disappointed. Both Bugatti and McLaren have outdone themselves when it comes to bringing stunning models to their customers.
