Fernando Alonso is delaying the publication of his autobiography until he stops running in order to be able to tell “my own truth” about his time in motorsport.
The Spaniard has been teasing a book for some time. The autobiography – simply titled “Racer” – is available for pre-order, but the release date is postponed regularly. After Alonso resigned from Formula 1 at the end of 2018 to take part in the World Endurance Championship, the Indy 500 and the Dakar Rally, among other things, Alonso’s return to F1 with Alpine was delayed again.
“I’ve been working on a book for a number of years and originally planned to send it out in 2018 when I left F1,” Alonso said during a live event on Instagram. “We postponed it for a while because I realized that I was still racing in different categories. I’m back in Formula 1 now so I’ll do it when I stop and can tell my own experiences and my own truth about things.
“Because if the book comes out while I’m racing, it might be a little strange. That’s why I prefer to end my motorsport experience and then tell. “

Alonso has already compiled numerous dramatic chapters in his racing career, including the youngest two-time world champion in F1 at the time – against Michael Schumacher in 2005 and 2006 – followed by an explosive season with McLaren alongside Lewis Hamilton and several nearby – leaves Ferrari before attempting to win the Triple Crown by driving in Indianapolis while still a McLaren F1 driver in 2017.
The description of the book in the pre-order list states: “Who is the real Fernando Alonso?
“Fernando’s first and only autobiography, written in the midst of asphalt, dunes, obstacles and ever higher goals, is a journey through reflections on his life, his world, his dreams and everything that is really important to him in a way he never does has has before.
“At its core, it’s a story about a boy from Spain who examined the go-kart tracks early on and worked hard all his life to become a champion like no other. A career that spans the race against Schumacher to Hamilton, a life on the track like no other. This is the ultimate F1 autobiography by the ultimate F1 racing driver. “
