The McLaren F1 is not only one of the most important supercars of all time, it is also one of the most exclusive. Because of this, serious collectors need to act quickly on the rare occasion that one is up for grabs.
Now is one of those moments when a red 1995 F1 has just been put up for sale by used supercar dealer Issimi. Even better, this F1, one of only seven ever sold in the US, is in excellent condition.
Introduced in 1992, the speed machine designed by Gordon Murray, with its aerodynamic design and the latest technology, changed the course of supercar history and is even considered by some enthusiasts to be the first hypercar. It’s easy to see why. Beneath its gorgeous carbon fiber body is a 6.1-liter BMW S70 / 2 V12 connected to a six-speed manual transmission that can produce 627 horses, 479 ft lbs of spin and redline at 7,500 rpm. This particular example is from the 1995 model year – the car was only produced from 1992 to 1998 – and, according to Issimi, has been “excellently maintained” since it was phased out. It’s red and has a black interior with red accents that offers enough space for you and two passengers. It went through two owners in the course of its life, although the dealer did not reveal the exact number of miles on the odometer.
But it is this F1 rarity that makes this sale so remarkable. 106 examples were built during its seven years of production and only 64 were street legal. Only seven of these were sold to owners in the United States. The new owner will
Issimi does not name a price for the vehicle, but urges interested parties to contact one of his advisors. If you miss this F1, however, don’t worry. We don’t know of any other examples of the supercar that will hit the market in the near future, but Murray’s current creation, the T.50, is slated to go into production next year. The high-tech runabout is said to cost around $ 3 million.
