The process can best be described by throwing darts at the board hoping the end results make sense and indignant subscribers not storming The Athletic headquarters with pitchforks. So here it goes.

With the start of the calendar in July, championship pictures in the top-class motorsport series come into focus. Max Verstappen has held his own in Formula 1, Kyle Larson and his Hendrick Motorsports teammates are leaders in NASCAR, and it’s a four-driver battle in IndyCar.
