A 1995 McLaren F1 supercar was put up for sale in the United States with price expectations of “over $ 15 million” (A $ 20 million).
The near-flawless, Gordon Murray-designed vehicle – stamped chassis number 029 of 106 – has only driven 390 km since new and allegedly spent most of its 26-year history in a private Japanese collection.
Although difficult to verify, the seller claims that this makes it one of the “best-preserved examples ever”.
The lightweight monocoque body and exterior panels are in a unique metallic brown tone, while the three-seater interior is upholstered in light brown and dark brown leather with carbon fiber accents.
It is powered by a 6.1-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine from BMW, which sends 461 kW / 650 Nm to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
McLaren never officially released performance specs for the F1, but real world tests suggest a 0-100 km / h sprint time of around 3.2 seconds and a top speed of over 380 km / h.
The British super sports car is listed at the auction house Gooding & Company and will go under the hammer at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.
The value of McLaren F1 supercars has more than quadrupled since new, thanks to small-volume production and high profile former owners (including Elon Musk, Jay Leno and Rowan Atkinson). In 2019, a private buyer picked up a 1994 copy for a record-breaking $ 19.8 million (A $ 25 million).
