“You have to turn it upside down” – Mercedes boss Toto Wolff talks about his team’s approach after a disappointing end to the Belgian GP.
The end of the Belgian Grand Prix was highly questionable, but in the end the result is irreversible, because Max Verstappen’s half-point victory brings him only three points behind Lewis Hamilton in the championship.
Mercedes is not happy with the outcome and has voiced its concerns about the FIA’s actions, but has also claimed that they will not move the matter forward and will take the result up to their chin.

“Half points are awarded, although it was expected that the weather would not get better,” said Wolff. “But it is what it is. And I guess you have to turn this upside down and close the chapter for this race and move on. “
“In a way, we really have to applaud the fans who were there in the rain for three days, they were waiting for a race to take place. But as a team we lost a few points and that’s why we have to keep going. “
Can’t control the weather and Monday was out of the question
During the regular postponement of the race start, there were several proposals to keep the race on Monday, such as IndyCar and NASCAR allowing a race to be postponed to Monday, but it was rejected and Wolff is defending that decision.
“Everyone tried to get a race going and it didn’t happen because of the rain,” said Wolff. “To get back to your Monday question, I think we had a lot of fans that day who have to return to their jobs tomorrow.”
Kudos to every single fan who is still here ![]()

“We would have tried to make the race for the local fans, so it wouldn’t have made much difference to them.”
