With Kimi Raikkonen’s announcement on Thursday evening, it looks like Super Zandvoort will be the place to be when it comes to the Silly Season. The expectation is that after Kimi, many other pieces of the puzzle will collapse.
Announcements in Zandvoort
It all depends on Mercedes’ decision. The German team seems to choose George Russell and has already made their decision. It just wanted to wait for the driver who was not selected as this team didn’t want to announce the line-up until later. With Valtteri Bottas connected to Kimi’s seat at Alfa Romeo, the ball can now get rolling.

The question is whether Alfa Romeo will have its full line-up. Whether Bottas will be brought to Alfa Romeo remains to be seen who will join him. The most logical option would be to keep Antonio Giovinazzi, but this year it was clear that he too is not sure of his place. Alexander Albon, Nico Hülkenberg and even Nyck de Vries were named for this seat.
A chance for De Vries?
In this respect, the place next to Bottas is still a wildcard. It will also have to do with the choice of Williams. There, Alexander Albon seems to be the replacement for Russell, who is moving to Mercedes. De Vries has been mentioned and suggested by Toto Wolff, but Nicholas Latifi has received praise from Williams in the past few weeks. The chance that it will also be put aside is therefore not that great.
So this weekend we can expect an announcement from Alfa Romeo and Williams. Previously, Monza was heralded as the moment of announcement, but with Raikkonen’s announcement on Wednesday evening, things got going. AlphaTauri has yet to present the line-up, but they can choose their own moment for it and then the home base in Italy seems to make the most sense for the team.
Expectations for the line-up for 2022:
Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton & George Russell
Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen & Sergio Perez
McLaren: Lando Norris & Daniel Ricciardo
Ferrari: Charles Leclerc & Carlos Sainz
alpine: Fernando Alonso & Esteban Ocon
Aston Martin: Sebastian Vettel & Lance Stroll
AlphaTauri: Pierre Gasly & Yuki Tsunoda
Alfa Romeo: Valtter Bottas & Antonio Giovinazzi
Haas: Mick Schumacher & Nikita Mazepin
Williams: Alexander Albon & Nicholas Latifi
