Williams' Dave Robson: "Once again, the top 10 were excruciatingly close"

Dave Robson admitted that the top ten were “excruciatingly close” for that Williams Racing Team on Sunday Spanish Grand Prix With George Russell He was fighting for points before slipping on the checkered flag to fourteenth place.

Russell tried to make a set of medium tires from the twenty-eighth lap through the end of the sixty-six hour race, battling it out for tenth place Alpine F1 team‘s Fernando Alonso. However, other drivers had fresher tires and were able to overtake the Briton, leaving him behind in fourteenth place.

Teammate Nicholas latifi was unable to be in the same type of battle but was able to finish before either Uralkali Haas F1 Team Driver and Alonso, the Spaniard had made a late stop after falling out of the top ten fights.

Robson, the head of vehicle development at Williams, says the performance at the Barcelona-Catalonia Circuit continues to increase the team’s appetite and motivation as they try to score their first points since German Grand Prix from 2019.

“We enjoyed it today and were able to drive some good quality midfield cars,” said Robson. “The opening stint was tough, but the early safety car provided an opportunity and we were able to take advantage of Giovinazzi’s slow pit stop by pitting both cars.

“George and Nicholas both showed good pace on the option tires and George as the lead car was able to pull back and avoid many of the blue flags and attacking cars that later appeared behind us.

“Nicholas pitted a third time to protect his position against Giovinazzi and the Haas cars. Meanwhile, George tried to pull a needle between handling his tires, attacking Alonso, and defending against the cars behind them. It was an impossible task in the end, but we’re happy that we could ride hard and put ourselves in a strong position.

“Once again the top 10 were excruciatingly close, but this only increases our appetite and our motivation to push everything out of the FW43B for the rest of the season.”
