
Mclaren Indy motorist Pato O’Ward is ready to jump into an F1 car cockpit for the first time. The 2018 Indy Lights champion is part of Mclaren’s postseason testing currently being conducted in Abu Dhabi. However, the Mexican will drive the current car, while Norris and Ricciardo will test a mule car with 18-inch tires.

Pirelli boss Mario Isola confirmed that all 10 teams want to test the Mule cars with 18-inch tires designed for the 2021 F1 season. The 3-day tests will be completed after the final race at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Pato O’Ward is delighted with the Mclaren MCL35M. to drive
The two-time race winner in the Arrow McLaren SP team will take part in the youth test this Tuesday. McLaren CEO Zak Brown promised the 22-year-old his early chance in an F1 car. However, now that O’Ward is working closely with the Surrey team, he is amazed at the intensity with which the sport is practiced.
In a recent tweet posted by Mclaren, O’Ward could be heard sharing his thoughts after getting a taste of an F1 car. “Oh my god! The handle, man, is insane. At the end of the day my head is sure to fall off. I’m fucking in love with this thing.”

In a recent interview with Chris Medland, he spoke about his chances in Formula 1. The Mexican compared F1 with the Indycar series and pointed out the enormous difference in intensity with which the two sports are operated. “So my focus is on just taking it all in and seeing if it’s something I can get in touch with in the future,” said O’Ward, as reported by Racer.

“And it’s, I mean, man, 750 people work here for two cars. You won’t see anything like this anywhere else. And even IndyCar, it’s such a competitive series and when you see that the differences between the individual teams are huge, like huge differences and only two very different types of competition, ”said the Mexican about the two sports.

However, the first contact with an F1 car must have been an unforgettable moment for the young driver. Plus, he’s not the only Indycar driver in the post-season tests. The Brazilian racing driver Pietro Fittipaldi also takes part in the post-season tests with the Haas F1 team. However, he will only be part of the US team until Nikita Mazepin recovers from his illness.
