Steiner talks about Resta’s early influence at Haas

Steiner talks about Resta's early influence at Haas

Haas boss Günther Steiner works closely with the new technical manager Simone Resta.

Before the 2021 season, Resta, who was Ferrari’s head of chassis engineering and also worked with Ferrari’s other Alfa Romeo customer team, became Haas’ first technical director since it started in 2016.

Although Resta has been present at races, it is mainly based in Haas’ new complex in Maranello, which helps create a closer relationship with their engine and parts supplier.

After completing the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Steiner visited the new Haas base and gave a little insight into operations there.

“The day-to-day business in our Maranello office is managed by Simone Resta,” says Steiner.

“Of course we are always in contact, we always talk about things, not least because I know the past here and I want to pass on so much of this knowledge to him so that he knows how best to continue.

“In the short five months we’ve been there, he’s done a good job.”

Steiner also hopes Haas, who effectively sacrificed this season to fully prepare for the new regulations in 2022, can return some fun times.

He added: “I am obviously really looking forward to 2022. I see that we are making good progress.

“Hopefully the car will be competitive and we’ll have a lot of fun again in 2022.”

The two rookie pilots from Haas, Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, enter uncharted territory as they prepare for their first triple action in Formula 1.

But Steiner believes that this is a challenge that they can and should take up.

“I think any challenge is good for her,” he said.

“You are exposed to the things that are happening in Formula One right now.

“It’s a triple header, you can’t change it, you have to deal with it. Sometimes it’s good because there’s no time for distractions between races.

“You are both young, have a lot of energy and want to do racing.

“For me, it’s not a bad thing for her. You just have to stay focused and we’ll see how much you can do that.

“I think it’s good for you to be under this pressure in the first part of your career, not just during the season. I am sure you will get along very well with it. “
