Pirelli uses “the most versatile combination” on the Circuit Paul Ricard – Mario Isola

Pirelli uses "the most versatile combination" on the Circuit Paul Ricard - Mario Isola

After the chaos of Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Pirelli chose one of the most powerful combinations of its tires this weekend French Grand Prix.

This weekend’s race comes at a time when Pirelli desperately needs a clean weekend with no punctures after its disastrous performance in Azerbaijan. Circuit Paul Ricard is fortunately familiar territory for them, the place where several Pirelli tests took place in the past, so it should be a pure sailing weekend for the manufacturer.

For this weekend, Pirelli has chosen the C2, C3 and C4 compounds, which were used in France two years ago and for the first two runs of this year’s championship. There is very little tire wear on the track so it will most likely be another one-stop race. Chances are many drivers will try to make it through qualifying three on the middle tire to help them get deeper into the race.

Pirelli’s Head of F1 and Car Racing, Mario Isola, highlighted the eclectic combination used this weekend and that a one-stop is likely.

“We are again in the middle of the field for the tire combination of the first two races of this year. This is the most versatile combination that is ideally suited for the most varied of requirements and therefore also fits well with the Paul Ricard route, which contains an interesting mix of curves.

“That also makes Paul Ricard a good test location, and although we haven’t had a Formula 1 race there for two years, we are testing next year’s 18-inch tires on this track earlier in the season, and we’re last there too Driven in the GT World Challenge for the month. ”

“For France, we’re sticking to the nomination we had at the last French Grand Prix, which resulted in a one-stopper for most drivers. However, we saw that there were several different types of one-stoppers that were executed, resulting in a number of different strategies. “
