George Russell’s 12th place at the French Grand Prix should give Haas the courage to achieve similar results in the future, said team boss Günther Steiner.

The Williams driver excelled at Paul Ricard and in a race in which all 20 cars crossed the finish line and there were no safety car phases, he was just seven seconds behind Carlos Sainz – and in front of Charles Leclerc in the other Ferrari. While the result puts Williams back ahead of Haas in the Constructors’ Championship, Steiner believes it’s a testament to what hard work and strong performance can do for a team at the end of the grid.
“I would say it was a bit of a strange race in midfield and George did a good job in putting himself in a position to finish 12th and overtake us in the championship,” said Steiner. “But if you take the good out of it, who would have thought a week or two ago that Williams could finish 12th in front of a Ferrari and two Alfa Romeos and so on?
“I see no reason why we shouldn’t think that we could do that too. Take a look at Mick (Schumacher) ‘s qualifying performance – everyone was surprised. Obviously it ended the way it ended, but even this round he was strong and a lot of people came up to me and said, ‘Wow, where is this round coming from?’ Because compared to the others it was a good lap.
“It also gives me the belief that it is possible if you try hard, and George is now in his third year in this situation and he keeps pushing. That is, the determination is worth something. So I respect what they did because it may have been done when 10 cars didn’t fail, they all crossed the finish line. But it also encourages me to say to my boys, ‘Boys, anything is possible.’ “
“It just means we have to work harder, I have to work harder and hopefully be closer to the field again soon.” @SchumacherMick sums up his race. # HaasF1 #FrenchGP pic.twitter.com/nXWx4Wsw0P

And Steiner hopes that Austria will suit Haas better than the previous circuits, because from this weekend there will be two races at the Red Bull Ring.
“We talked about it, but I’m not sure, we’ll only see it when we get there. We know our performance, but we don’t know how the other people are performing there. There are fewer corners that might help a little, but you never know, until you get to where we are. Hopefully it helps because there are two races there, so you have twice the chance! “
