F1 USGP 2021 is set to be one of the highlights of the season as the picture was as clear as mud after the checkered flag fell at the end of the session. In stark contrast to the earlier sessions in which Mercedes was the pace, this time it was Red Bull who set the times at the front of the field.
Sergio Perez finished the session at the top again. However, it was not a representative order; Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had to cancel their laps (which were about 3 tenths of a second faster than Perez) due to lane violations.
No clarity on the F1 pecking order at Austin
The pecking order picture is just not clear enough to prove that one of the teams has an advantage over the other. The times of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were almost identical and a few tenths ahead of Perez. However, both were knocked down for violating the route barriers.
Ferrari and McLaren in dispute
There was a time when these two teams were legitimate F1 championship contenders. Both teams, McLaren and Ferrari, were comparable in terms of performance throughout the year.
Haas F1’s golden opportunity for Q2
With drivers like Vettel, Alonso and Russell imposing penalties for a new engine, Haas will be looking to take another opportunity to skip the line in qualifying and make it to the second quarter.
Mick Schumacher did it in the last race, now we have to see if Haas can repeat himself from the previous races.
