Haas will not take Ferrari’s new hybrid system this season, says Günther Steiner

Haas will not take Ferrari's new hybrid system this season, says Günther Steiner

Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will not use the upgraded Ferrari engine this season, Günther Steiner says that it will not do “much” for Haas as things stand.

Haas has spent this season driving at the very back of the field and the American team chose to focus on developing their rookie drivers rather than the car.

The team’s full focus is on 2022, with Steiner previously declaring that P5 will be the goal.

As happy as he’s happy to see that Ferrari’s new hybrid system looks good, as this will be the engine that will power the VF-22 in the championship next year, his team won’t have an early taste of it like Steiner Confirmed Neither Schumacher nor Mazepin will operate the updated system this season.

“I think we decided against the hybrid system because even this step would not have helped us, would not have done much for us,” he said.

“But I see it positively, because that would of course be the hybrid system, a system for the next year that we should really look forward to.

“You also worked a lot on the ICE.

“I was in Maranello with Gene Haas before Monza and they showed us what they were doing. How good it is always hard to say.

“It’s the same with the car.

“Even if their engine is good and the other engines are super good, they are still lagging behind so I think they are making the right effort to make a better engine and next year they have to be there with all the other engines be the same outside or hopefully even better. “

The Haas 2022 car will again be built by Dallara and fitted with all approved Ferrari parts.

Steiner insists it’s still a Haas car.

“It’s neither Ferrari nor Dallara, it’s a Haas car,” said the Italian. “I’ve already explained that a couple of times.

“We have people who work at Ferrari, all of whom are employed by Haas and who are not administered or managed by Ferrari because this is also not allowed by law or the regulations.

“At Dallara we still have around 30 people working exclusively for us and then we sometimes put them together at the end of the year or the beginning of next year, when the workload gets high we throw in more people and that is the advantage of Dallara, they have good people there and you can just go into the resources and you don’t have to hire people all year round.

“I would say around 30 Haas employees at Dallara, there are around 70/80 Haas employees in the office in Maranello.”
